Like a lot of women, I am kind of obsessed with my hair. My obsession revolves around this fear that one day it’s all going to break off and I’ll be bald. Don’t ask, I have no idea why I think this! I don’t have great hair, it’s very fine, full of greys, limp…you name your hair concern and I’ll likely share it. I also suffer from major hair envy. Mostly it’s because I see so many cool hair products come on the market and want to try them, but I just know my hair won’t be able to handle the weight of them. So I tend to shy away from anything more than a heat spray and stick to plain old volumizing shampoo and conditioner.
Argan oil has been the wonder child of the hair world for awhile now and like usual I wanted to try it but figure that it would be the last thing my hair would like. I just figured that it would be too heavy and would make my hair look like a hot greasy mess. When I had the opportunity to try out DermOrganic, I jumped at it but I was still skeptical that I would like it.
I received the DermOrganic Hair Essentials kit to try. It comes with the Daily Conditioning Shampoo, Intensive Repair Masque and their Argan Oil leave in treatment. All of the products are vegan, free of sulfates, gluten, parabens, propylene glycol, salt, dyes, sodium chloride, artificial preservatives and they are cruelty free and colour safe so you can still use them on salon treated hair. Whew that’s a lot!
The DermOrganic Daily Conditioning Shampoo is formulated with facial cleansers so that it can be super gentle on your hair but clean it at the same time. It’s also enriched with Argan Oil, Vitamin E, Omega-6 and Linoleic Acid, Panthenol, Rice Amino Acids, and other anti-oxidant plant extracts to help protect your hair colour. You can use it on your hair and body which is pretty cool. I shampoo my hair almost every day and my hair has really responded well to the shampoo. It looks better on the second day and it seems like I don’t need as much dry shampoo when I use it because my hair isn’t being stripped anymore. One thing to note, because the shampoo is sulfate free, you need to have a lot of water in your hair to make a lather.
The Intensive Repair Masque helps to repair damage from colouring, sun, heat, etc while softening and smoothing hair too. It’s gentle enough to use a few times weekly as a treatment or you can use it every day instead of your regular conditioner. I like to use it every few washes because the shampoo doesn’t make me feel like I need to condition every wash now.
The leave-in treatment with Argan oil is my favourite of the three. Made with Certified Argan Oil of Morocco, it detangles, protects from heat damage, reduces drying time, and leaves my hair incredibly soft and shiny. It has a really pleasant, sweet smell but it doesn’t linger after its been applied. I did have a few times when I applied too much, but a bit of dry shampoo helped absorb the excess. I never, ever thought I would be using an oil in my hair but this has changed my mind for good. I honestly cannot imagine not using one!
To really test them out, I shampooed, conditioned and styled with my old hair products. The difference was amazing. My hair felt dry, was hard to comb through and it was less shiny than with the DermOrganic products. I also tried just the Argan Oil with Lush’s Big! shampoo without conditioning. The Argan oil removed the need for a conditioner without ruining the benefits of the shampoo. That’s pretty amazing since Big! is a sea salt based shampoo.
These three products leave my hair in the best condition it’s probably ever been in. It’s SO soft. I can’t stress that enough but I can say I regularly run my fingers through it because its so pleasant now! The line is also really cost effective and the starter kit will last you a pretty long time. DermOrganic also offers a free trial kit of their hair and skin care line so if you can, I would really recommend checking them out.
