Back in December I received Julep’s It Girl Maven box with Ivy, Vivien and Harper inside. Ivy caught my eye during the selection window so I was really excited to get it and try her out. Julpe describes Ivy as a “dynamic sapphire micro-glitter metallic” but in my opinion it’s more of a cobalt blue with pink and purple micro-glitter. On Julep’s site, Ivy photographs a lot brighter and the micro-shimmer doesn’t show up so I was pleasantly surprised when I tried her on.
Application wise, I needed three coats to get Ivy opaque. There is a really faint nail line but I thought four coats would be too much. I’m finding that it’s pretty common to need three coats with a lot of Julep polishes, especially if they are metallic or have shimmer in them. Photos really don’t do Ivy justice (I feel like I say that a lot when it comes to Julep polishes too!). The pink/purple shimmer is so fine that it’s almost impossible to capture, but on the nail it shines through. Its so pretty and really changes Ivy from a pretty-but-standard blue into something more unique.
I liked Ivy so much I decided to use it for the DIY ring Julep also included for December. Unfortunately the ring is not really my style so I don’t think I’ll be wearing it, but I like the idea. I normally wear darker purples or colours in general, but Ivy has been on my nails a lot lately. When I saw the previews of December’s polishes, I was really drawn to the It Girl box because all of the colours looked fresh, fun and summery, the opposite of the yucky weather we’ve been experiencing lately! I think I’ll still be wearing Ivy in the warmer months, it’s a really nice all year shade.
The Julep Maven box is a monthly subscription service. Julep Mavens receive 2-3 polishes plus a product each month (depending on their style profile) for $19.95. On the 20th of each month, Julep sends out a preview email to meet the month’s boxes. After you preview, you can accept your style profile, switch to a new profile for the month, or skip the month. If you’re interested in becoming a Maven, feel free to use my referral link or sign up on your own.
